Perry Home Headquarters: How It Works

Welcome and thank you for becoming part of the Perry Home Headquarters network.

Republican campaigns have not changed much in the past thirty years — determine a message that moves voters, put it on TV and radio; ; assign grassroots activist with menial tasks to do; and try to earn as much press as you can.

That’s it. That is how we have campaigned for the last three decades.

Clearly it is not working anymore. We need to find new ways to reach voters, new ways to deliver our message and new ways to get people involved in our campaigns.

Over the past two election cycles the Perry campaign has spent a great deal of time and effort trying to determine the best way to deliver information to voters. The one thing that we have seen is that personal connections matter. People like to receive information from people they know and already trust.

That simple idea is the catalyst for the Perry Home Headquarters project. Give individuals the tools and encouragement to run their own Perry for Governor mini-campaign.

In order to support all of these headquarters Texans for Rick Perry is doing a lot of things that have never been done before in Republican campaigns in Texas (never done before in Republican campaigns anywhere for that matter).

  • Hire the largest field staff ever. We will need to hire as many as 4,000 field staff. Most of these will be part-time workers with other jobs and all of them will be paid strictly on performance. Remember the field staff that recruited you to join the network is also there to help you meet your goal.
  • Give individuals the tools and encouragement to run their own campaigns. The heart of this effort is the website your logged onto right now. This site will allow you access to information about Governor Perry and the campaign that you can use to advocate to your friends and neighbors. You know what information your mother or brother needs to get in order to support Governor Perry. You know how best to get each of your 12 people to vote (maybe you’ll need to drive them to the early voting location, maybe a phone call in the morning before they leave for work or at the office before they head home). The point is that we don’t care how you do it, we just want you to do it and the campaign is ready, willing and able to give you the tools and the freedom you need.

In order for this project to work, we are changing the way we think about grassroots politics. In the past we have thought about ways you could help the campaign, with Perry Home Headquarters we are thinking of ways that the campaign can help you.

Thanks for being a part and please let us know what we can do to help.

Political Director: Senior staff who will oversee the day to day operations of the PHHQ project.

Regional Field Directors: Each will be assigned to a region of state (Central Texas, Greater Dallas County, Greater Tarrant County, North Texas, East Texas, South Texas, both West Texas and Greater Houston will have 2 Regional Field Directors). They will work with the Field Staff in their region to help them recruit PHHQs and ensure that the PHHQs have whatever they need to be successful.

Field Staff: Volunteers and part-time workers paid based on performance, they will be the link between TRP and the PHHQs. They will be responsible for the recruitment and encouragement of PHHQs.

Perry Home Headquarters: Volunteers given the ability to run their very own mini-campaign to identify, persuade and turnout 12 votes for Governor Perry.
